Odds and Ends

This section deals with things that I did not actually include elsewhere because I could not find a fit. It also covers things I meant to do but did not get around to.

Money Exchange

I wanted to point out an anomoly here. I typically went to the American Express office to change money and to cash personal checks once a month, using my American Express card to gain the priviliges. The address used to be Birger Jarlsgaten 1 and in Stockholm This Week, that address is still documented. The office has moved to Norrtullsgaten 21, north of Hamngaten a few blocks. All the other money exchanges charge a greater fee.

Boat Tours

This is something I definitely recommend. You can do a couple of types of tours but perhaps the best is the shrimp/salmon tour into the archipelago. These tours last about four hours and you eat shrimp and salmon. The trick is not to drink too much. Usually they will have a troubedour onboard singing traditional songs and they will stop at the turnaround point for a little dancing. This is truly a hoot. The prices range from 165SEK to around 250SEK and that price only includes the boat ride and food.

The other boat trip I wanted to take is a five day cruise from Stockholm to Helsinki to St. Petersberg to Estonia and back to Stockholm. You stay onboard the ship at night so you do not need visas or a hotel (which for St. Petersberg is a huge savings). My friends Karen Johnson and Mary Esther Middleton told me about this possibility so a tip of the nerd beanie to them.

Centralbadet

Centralbadet (the central bath) is at Drottinghamgaten 88 and is pretty easy to miss. There you can get a massage, do the sauna thing, sit in a jacuzzi and do the whole spa trip. I went by my next to last day in Stockholm and it was closed. I do not know the prices, but if this kind of thing appeals to you, this seems the most reasonable place in Stockholm to do it.
